School Counselors are highly educated, professionally certified individuals who help students succeed in school and plan their career. They help students form healthy goals, mindsets, and behaviors. With the aid of a school counselor, students learn to develop effective collaboration and cooperation skills, to practice perseverance, to develop time management and study skills, and to learn self-motivation and self-direction habits.

Mental Health Therapists - York Preparatory Academy has partnered with Catawba Community Mental Health to provide mental health services for students and their families. Catawba's Masters-level Professionals (MHP), specializing in the provision of school-based mental health care, provide services year-round utilizing Evidence-Based Practices. MHPs assist students, families, and schools in developing comprehensive behavioral healthcare plans to address needs that may interfere with student educational success and overall well being. MHP's promote whole-school wellness and support school leadership as they navigate the intersection of social, emotional and academic outcomes of students. SMHS provide non-stigmatizing and easily accessible services to children and their families in the school setting.

The Behavior Interventionist is an experienced individual that helps students reach their full potential by teaching and reinforcing behaviors that are beneficial to their success. As a support to the classroom teacher, the Behavior Interventionist provides individual or small group instruction to students, along with consultation for teachers, in which the student’s behavior is affecting the learning environment.
The Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) is a highly trained and certified behaviorist that provides behavioral support campus wide to students and staff. The BCBA consults on behavioral programs that are implemented by the behavior interventionists in each of the schools. Using data collection, the BCBA is able to analyze and hypothesize functions of behaviors and develop behavior plans to support replacement behaviors to meet those same functions in the school setting.
